Client A was an exciting startup that was full of “the best of the best”. The team was top notch, the company was on fire and was seeing massive growth. Client B was a somewhat boring concept, and the staff was good but not the top rung.
So why was it that Client B ended up becoming an 8 figure company while Client A ended up fizzling?
Objectively understanding customers…
Client A operated for 4 years and operated on a big assumption about customer behavior. Namely that customers would be loyal to a brand. That assumption was never tested until a year before the company dissolved. And only then after pressure from their board. Testing their hypothesis was never a prime concern.
Client A assumed…
Client B on the other hand has spent their entire existence trying to understand their customers. They know how long it takes to convert, how they convert, and why they convert. This has propelled them into a high market position making 8 figures a year!
Client B tested…
I was also there when Client B started while I was brought in much later for Client A…
It was just too late to change directions…
I get it, data science and research are usually not at the focus of many companies. Machine Learning isn’t something you do as a part of your service offering. And that’s great! Focus on doing what you know best.
But don’t ignore the science behind how you make money…
I’ve worked with research teams comprised of Ph.D’s, startups, and written two books on machine learning. I know data science and research as well as software development. But more importantly, I obsessed about customers. They come first always.
Instead of giving up a slice of your company, as well as a big chunk of salary looking for a unicorn, you can hire me a chief scientist as a part-time aspect of your team to push you towards newer greater heights.
While there are numerous benefits the most important are:
- Having someone on call to distil new insights into useful product ideas
- Development towards new initiatives
- Staying relevant without overspending
- Learning the science behind your success
“When Matt carried out his role as Chief Scientist for the company I was at, he excelled in driving the team’s focus and direction while also being a mentor to all of the developers in every stage of the process.”
“While leadership, planning, and research are Matthew’s strong suit, he is not afraid to get his hands dirty and dig into the work.”
— Addam Hardy, Director of Engineering at Lofty Labs
“Matt has an impressive breadth of knowledge.”
“His math background helped us quite a bit on a few features we developed, and my suspicion is that he will use that on other projects as well.”
— Alan Talanoa, Software Development Manager at AWS
“Matthew was a terrific asset to our research team.”
— Brian Langstraat, CEO Parametric Portfolio Associates
Your Chief Scientist is a program where I will discover projects to work on with you over the course of 3 months. We will have an initial strategy call (60 minutes), then I will pair with your team twice a month and deliver training advice once a month. All while delivering useful code and insight along the way.
I only work with a few clients at a time. This is to keep my quality at the highest level. That means that if you’re thinking about working with me please reach out sooner than later. That way we can get you scheduled and we can start working together.
If you find yourself dissatisfied with the work I’m accomplishing then let’s talk and figure out a good solution to the problem first and foremost. I will refund your money if you decide that I’m not delivering the value you need. I stand by my work.
Remember that if your business isn’t growing it’s probably dying. What are you doing to push your company to newer heights? Do you have a scientist in your back pocket?
P.S. I only work with a few highly motivated companies at a time. So reach out sooner so we can schedule to work together!
